How to Choose Skin and Hair Care Products
![]() |
Skin and hair care products are some of the most frequently purchased personal care items in the world today. Everyone wants clean, gorgeous skin and hair, and today's beauty products provide this and so much more. The plethora of different products means you get lots of choice when it comes to these items. However, too much selection can sometimes be daunting. Here are some tips for choosing the best products for your skin and hair.
Both skin and hair has a particular type. Sometimes, your skin and hair are the same type, other times, skin and hair are different types. There are four main types for skin and hair, and they are normal, dry, oily and combination. Let's look first at what this means for the skin. Normal skin is the best kind to have, being neither dry or oily but ideal in texture and tone. Dry skin is often tight, flaky and more likely to show the affects of aging. If you've got oily skin, you're most likely dealing with shine and acne. Combination skin is normally oily at the T-zone area (forehead, nose and chin) and dry elsewhere. Make sure that the skin care products you choose are specifically made for your individual skin type. All skin types will need a good cleanser. Dry skin often requires a rich moisturizer, while oily skin needs an astringent or acne cream.
Hair can also be normal, dry, oily or even combination. Normal hair, like normal skin, is the best type to have. Dry hair is often coarse and brittle, with split ends and a dull texture. Oily hair, on the other hand, is normally greasy and limp. While it is uncommon, it is possible to have combination hair. This usually means the roots of the hair are oily, with dry ends. You'll find a variety of shampoos, conditioners, mousses, gels and sprays for each hair type. For combination hair, you might need a clarifying shampoo for the roots and a deep conditioner for the ends. Additionally, there are products made just for permed or color-treated hair.
Choosing the right skin and hair care products can make all the difference in your appearance. Always read product packaging to make sure you choose products that are especially designed for your individual skin and hair types. Whether you go for drugstore products or more expensive department store or salon products is a matter of personal preference, and depends on what works best for you.
